Symptoms

• Cooktop will not turn on or respond to touch controls • One or more burners fail to heat • Inconsistent heating or power cycling on and off • E8 error message displayed on the digital control panel or via LED indicator lights • Touch controls appear unresponsive or delayed • Cooktop may shut down automatically during cooking • Induction cooktop may not detect cookware properly

Possible Causes

• Faulty temperature sensor on the cooktop surface or internal control module • Loose or disconnected wiring between the control board and heating elements or sensors • Moisture or spill damage affecting sensor connections or touch panel electronics • Cracked glass cooktop surface on smoothtop or induction models disrupting sensor function • Defective touch control panel with intermittent electrical contact issues • Control board failure or corrupted firmware on the microprocessor • Improper 240V electrical supply to electric or induction models, or 120V supply interruption to gas control module • Thermal sensor malfunction due to age or manufacturing defect

Safety Checks You Can Do

• Ensure the cooktop is completely powered down and wait 5 minutes before proceeding with checks • Inspect the home circuit breaker panel for your cooktop's dedicated breaker and verify it has not tripped; reset it if needed • For electric or induction models, confirm the cooktop is securely plugged into a dedicated 240V outlet and check the outlet for visible damage or loose connections • For gas cooktop models, verify the 120V control module outlet is functioning by plugging in another small appliance like a lamp • Visually inspect the cooktop surface for any visible cracks, chips, or damage on smoothtop or induction glass • Check that no liquid, food debris, or moisture is present on the touch control panel; gently dry the surface if wet • Verify that the touch control lock feature is not activated (consult your user manual for lock/unlock gesture) • On gas models, ensure all burner caps are seated properly and grates are fully seated in their correct positions • Turn off the dedicated circuit breaker for the cooktop for a full 60 seconds, then switch it back on to perform a complete power reset • After the reset, attempt to turn on a single burner to check if the error clears • If the error persists after a power reset and all visual checks pass, the cooktop likely requires professional sensor or control board service
Safety First
