Symptoms

• Cooktop will not heat or only heats one zone while others remain inactive • Error code E3 appears on the digital display or control panel • All touch controls become unresponsive or locked out • Cooktop shuts down automatically during cooking • Fan runs continuously even when cooktop is powered off • Burner ignition fails on gas models or heating element does not activate on electric/induction models

Possible Causes

• Thermal sensor (RTD or NTC thermistor) is faulty or has failed on the cooking zone • Thermal sensor connector is loose, corroded, or disconnected from the control board • Cooktop surface temperature exceeds safe operating limits due to blocked ventilation • Control board detected an open circuit in the thermal sensor wiring harness • Cookware or debris is blocking air vents underneath the cooktop reducing cooling • 240V power supply (electric/induction models) or 120V control circuit (gas models) is unstable or dropping voltage • Control module or PCB has experienced a temporary fault and requires reset • Cracked or damaged glass on smoothtop or induction model causing sensor misreading

Safety Checks You Can Do

• Turn off the cooktop and allow it to cool for at least 30 minutes before attempting any troubleshooting • Check your home's circuit breaker panel and verify the dedicated breaker for the cooktop is in the ON position; if tripped, switch it OFF then back ON • For electric and induction models, verify the cooktop is properly plugged into a dedicated 240V outlet or hardwired connection • For gas cooktop models, check that the 120V control module is connected to an active outlet and not sharing a circuit with other high-load appliances • Inspect the cooktop surface for any visible cracks, chips, or damage on the glass or ceramic surface • Ensure all cookware and cleaning supplies are removed from the cooktop and the area around ventilation openings is clear • Check that burner caps and grates are seated properly and not blocking gas ports on gas models • Wipe the cooktop surface and control panel with a dry cloth to ensure no moisture or spilled liquid is activating error detection • Verify touch controls are not locked by holding the lock button (if equipped) for 3-5 seconds to disable any active lock feature • Perform a hard reset by switching the dedicated circuit breaker OFF for 60 seconds, then switch it back ON • Power the cooktop back on and test one zone at low temperature to see if error code returns
