Symptoms
• Fan does not turn on when range hood controls are activated
• Fan runs but at significantly reduced speed regardless of speed setting
• Fan intermittently stops and starts during normal operation
• Display shows F03 error code and fan function is disabled
• Unusual grinding, rattling, or squealing sounds coming from the fan motor
• Fan runs only on certain speed settings but not others
Possible Causes
• Dust and grease accumulation on the fan motor impeller restricting rotation
• Loose or corroded electrical connections at the motor terminals
• Motor bearing wear or lubrication failure due to extended use
• Defective motor speed sensor preventing proper fan speed control
• Failed capacitor in the motor control circuit
• Motor winding short or internal motor failure
• Debris lodged in the fan housing or impeller blades
• Faulty connection between the control board and motor assembly
Safety Checks You Can Do
• Turn off power to the range hood at the home circuit breaker and wait 60 seconds, then restore power to perform a hard reset
• Verify the range hood is connected to a dedicated 120V outlet and check that the outlet has power using another appliance
• Inspect the home circuit breaker for the range hood and reset it if it appears tripped or in the middle position
• Remove and inspect the grease filters for heavy buildup; clean with warm soapy water or replace if excessively soiled, as filter blockage can strain the motor
• Visually inspect the exhaust duct from the range hood outside the home for blockages, kinks, or crushed sections that could increase motor load
• Listen carefully to the fan motor when powered on and report any unusual grinding, squealing, or rattling sounds
• Ensure all visible electrical connectors at the fan motor are tight and free of corrosion or moisture
• Check that nothing is lodged in or blocking the fan impeller by looking through accessible areas (do not attempt to disassemble)
• Verify the range hood controls are functioning properly by testing all speed settings to determine if the motor responds to any setting
Safety First
Always disconnect the appliance from power before performing any checks. If you are unsure about any step, please contact a qualified technician.
