Symptoms

• Range hood fan will not start or run at any speed setting • Fan makes unusual grinding, squealing, or clicking noises before stopping • Display panel shows E04 error code and fan buttons are unresponsive • Fan starts briefly then immediately shuts off and displays error • Reduced or no airflow from the range hood despite power being supplied • Error code persists even after attempting to change fan speeds

Possible Causes

• Exhaust duct is completely blocked, kinked, or crushed, preventing air movement and causing motor overload detection • Grease filter is heavily clogged with cooking residue, restricting airflow and triggering the motor protection circuit • Fan motor rotor is stuck or jammed due to debris, grease buildup, or mechanical obstruction • Motor capacitor has failed, preventing the 120V/60Hz motor from receiving proper starting voltage • Internal wiring connection to the motor has become loose or disconnected • Motor thermal overload protector has tripped due to sustained operating temperature • Control board is not properly sending power signal to the motor circuit

Safety Checks You Can Do

• Turn off the range hood and switch off the circuit breaker supplying power to the unit for 60 seconds, then turn the breaker back on to perform a hard reset • Verify the range hood is plugged into a dedicated 120V outlet or hardwired connection and check that the home circuit breaker for the unit has not tripped • Remove and visually inspect the stainless steel mesh grease filter for heavy grease buildup; clean thoroughly with hot water and degreaser or replace if damaged • Check the exhaust duct outside the home to ensure the damper moves freely and the vent opening is not blocked by lint, weather debris, or animal nests • Inspect the exhaust duct path inside the wall or cabinet for any kinks, crushing, or disconnections that would restrict airflow • Look inside the range hood opening to check if any visible debris, grease splatters, or foreign objects are obstructing the fan blades • Gently try to rotate the fan blades by hand (with power OFF) to confirm they spin freely and are not mechanically stuck • Ensure the range hood is installed level and not tilted, which can cause motor stress • Check all accessible electrical connections at the junction box or terminal block to confirm wires are seated firmly
Safety First

Always disconnect the appliance from power before performing any checks. If you are unsure about any step, please contact a qualified technician.
