Symptoms
• Range hood fan will not turn on or respond to speed controls
• Fan runs but suddenly stops or cycles on and off unexpectedly
• E05 error code displays on the control panel or LED display
• No sound from the fan motor when speed buttons are pressed
• Range hood lights may work normally while fan remains inoperative
• Reduced or absent airflow from the exhaust outlet or ductless filter area
Possible Causes
• Fan motor has failed or reached end of service life
• Loose or disconnected wiring between the control board and motor
• Defective motor capacitor preventing proper motor startup
• Control board malfunction or failed relay controlling motor power
• Clogged or heavily soiled grease filters restricting airflow and overloading the motor
• Blocked exhaust duct or damper preventing proper fan operation
• 120V power supply interruption to the motor circuit due to tripped breaker or loose connection
• Fan motor bearings seized or mechanical obstruction in fan wheel
• Faulty speed control switch or potentiometer on the control panel
Safety Checks You Can Do
• Check your home's electrical panel and reset any tripped circuit breakers dedicated to the range hood
• Verify the range hood is plugged into a dedicated 120V outlet or hardwired connection and check that all visible connections are secure
• Turn off power to the range hood at the circuit breaker and wait 60 seconds, then restore power to perform a hard reset
• Remove and inspect the grease filters for heavy buildup and clean thoroughly with warm soapy water or replace if damaged
• Check the exhaust duct outside the home to ensure the damper opens freely and the duct is not kinked, crushed, or blocked by debris
• Look inside the range hood housing for any visible obstructions, lint, or debris around the fan wheel and gently clear if accessible
• Listen carefully when the range hood is powered on to determine if the motor is attempting to run but stalling, or if there is no motor activity at all
• For ductless/recirculating models, ensure the charcoal filter is clean or replaced as a clogged filter can cause motor strain and error codes
• Confirm the range hood is receiving full 120V power by testing other kitchen outlets to rule out a broader electrical issue
Safety First
Always disconnect the appliance from power before performing any checks. If you are unsure about any step, please contact a qualified technician.
