Symptoms
• Cooktop display shows error code F3 and will not allow burners or heating elements to operate
• Touch controls are unresponsive or partially responsive
• Cooktop beeps repeatedly or displays the error code intermittently
• Some burners or zones may work while others do not
• Cooktop enters lockout mode and requires a reset to attempt operation again
• Electric or induction smoothtop cooktop may not heat up or cycles on and off unexpectedly
Possible Causes
• Temperature sensor (RTD or NTC thermistor) is disconnected, damaged, or has failed
• Loose or corroded electrical connections between the sensor and control board
• Control board malfunction or sensor signal processing error
• Cooktop surface glass is cracked or damaged on induction or smoothtop models, affecting sensor readings
• Voltage fluctuations or power delivery issues to the 240V circuit on electric/induction models or 120V circuit on gas controls
• Water or moisture has entered the sensor connection or control board area
• Faulty wiring harness connecting the temperature sensor to the main control module
Safety Checks You Can Do
• Turn off the circuit breaker serving the cooktop for 60 seconds, then switch it back on to perform a hard reset
• Check the home electrical panel to ensure the cooktop's dedicated circuit breaker is fully ON and has not tripped
• Verify the cooktop is properly plugged into its dedicated 240V outlet (for electric and induction models) or 120V outlet (for gas control module) and connections are tight
• Inspect the cooktop surface for visible cracks, chips, or damage on smoothtop or induction glass that may interfere with sensors
• Wipe down the entire cooktop surface and control panel with a dry cloth to remove any moisture, water droplets, or cleaning residue
• On gas models, ensure all burner caps and grates are seated firmly and completely in their proper positions
• Check that the cooktop's touch controls are not locked (look for a lock indicator on the display)
• Wait several minutes after the hard reset before attempting to use burners again, as the control board may need time to reinitialize
• Try operating a single burner or heating zone to see if the error clears or if the problem is specific to certain areas
• Verify no objects, cookware, or cleaning materials are blocking air vents or sensor areas around the cooktop edges
Safety First
Always disconnect the appliance from power before performing any checks. If you are unsure about any step, please contact a qualified technician.
