Symptoms

• Washing machine stops mid-cycle and displays E20 error code • No water fills the drum during the wash cycle • Partial water fill followed by error code appearance • Machine beeps and halts operation • Error code appears during initial fill or mid-wash phases • Drum remains empty despite cycle selection • Cycle cannot complete and machine locks

Possible Causes

• Kinked or pinched inlet hose on the back of the machine • Clogged or restricted water inlet hoses (mineral buildup from hard water) • Debris blocking the inlet valve screens at the hose connection points • Faulty water inlet valve not opening properly • Low home water pressure below the required 20 psi minimum • Water supply shutoff valve partially or fully closed • Frozen inlet hoses in cold climates or unheated spaces • Damaged or cracked inlet hose causing water loss • Failed inlet valve solenoid preventing water flow • Electrical issue preventing the inlet valve from activating

Safety Checks You Can Do

• Turn off and unplug the washing machine from the 120V outlet for safety • Check both hot and cold water supply shutoff valves behind the machine are fully opened (turn counterclockwise) • Inspect both inlet hoses for kinks, twists, or pinching along their entire length • Verify hoses are not frozen if the machine is in an unheated space or garage • Disconnect the inlet hoses and inspect the screens inside the connection ports for debris or mineral deposits • If screens are clogged, rinse them under tap water or use a soft brush to remove buildup • Reconnect hoses firmly ensuring they are hand-tight with no leaks • Check your home's water pressure with a pressure gauge (target range: 20-116 psi for USA plumbing) • Test water flow directly from the home shutoff valve to confirm adequate supply • Plug machine back in and run a short test cycle to see if error clears • Check your circuit breaker to ensure the outlet powering the machine is not tripped • Verify the inlet hoses are the correct Bosch replacement hoses rated for 120V North American models • If error persists after these checks, the inlet valve or control board may need professional diagnosis
