Symptoms
• Freezer stops cooling or cools inconsistently
• Display screen shows E01 error code
• Compressor runs continuously or cycles erratically
• Interior temperature rises above safe freezing levels (0°F or below)
• Alarm or beeping sound may activate
• Frost buildup or ice accumulation inside the freezer
• Control panel becomes unresponsive to temperature adjustments
Possible Causes
• Faulty temperature sensor (thermistor) in the freezer compartment
• Loose or damaged wiring harness connecting the sensor to the control board
• Control board malfunction or failed circuit component
• Defrost cycle timer failure preventing proper sensor communication
• Power supply voltage fluctuations from unstable home electrical circuit (120V/60Hz)
• Ice formation around the sensor probe blocking accurate temperature reading
• Corroded sensor connector pins due to moisture exposure in humid USA climates
Safety Checks You Can Do
• Check your home circuit breaker panel to confirm the freezer circuit has not tripped; reset if necessary and observe if error clears after a few minutes
• Unplug the freezer from the wall outlet for 5 minutes, then plug it back in to reset the control board and clear temporary errors
• Inspect the freezer door seal gasket for cracks, gaps, or deformation that could allow warm air inside and trigger false temperature readings
• Remove any ice buildup visible on or around the interior back wall and sensor area by allowing the freezer to defrost slightly in a safe manner
• Verify the room temperature where the freezer is installed is between 50°F and 110°F (typical USA indoor range); freezers in unheated garages or basements may malfunction outside this range
• Check that the freezer is not overstocked with food items that block airflow vents on the interior walls and prevent proper air circulation
• Clean the condenser coils (typically located at the back or underneath the freezer) by vacuuming away dust and debris buildup that can restrict heat dissipation
• Ensure the freezer is level and has adequate space (at least 2 inches) on all sides for proper ventilation and airflow around the cabinet
• Review the freezer manual to locate and visually inspect any accessible wiring connections behind or underneath the unit for signs of looseness or corrosion
Safety First
Always disconnect the appliance from power before performing any checks. If you are unsure about any step, please contact a qualified technician.
