Symptoms
• Freezer not cooling or cooling inconsistently
• Temperature display shows E20 error code
• Compressor cycles on and off frequently
• Frost or ice buildup inside the freezer compartment
• Alarm or beeping sound from the freezer
• Food items not staying frozen
• Temperature readings fluctuate erratically on the digital display
Possible Causes
• Defective freezer temperature sensor (thermistor) failure
• Loose or corroded wiring connection between sensor and control board
• Damaged temperature sensor probe or shorted sensor element
• Faulty main control board unable to read sensor signals
• Ice accumulation on the temperature sensor blocking accurate readings
• Electrical interference from 120V/60Hz household circuits affecting sensor signal
• Failed sensor calibration on the control board
• Water damage or moisture inside the sensor connector due to condensation in USA humid climates
Safety Checks You Can Do
• Verify the freezer is plugged into a working 120V outlet and check that the home circuit breaker for that outlet has not tripped
• Inspect the freezer door seal for cracks, tears, or deformation that may be causing warm air infiltration
• Clean the condenser coils (typically located at the back or bottom of the unit) with a soft brush or vacuum to remove dust buildup
• Ensure the ambient room temperature is between 50°F and 110°F, which is the recommended operating range for USA Bosch freezer models
• Check that the freezer is not overpacked with food items blocking airflow vents inside the unit
• Unplug the freezer for 5 minutes, then plug it back in to reset the control board electronics
• Verify that the freezer has adequate clearance around all sides for proper ventilation and air circulation
• Inspect the back of the unit where the temperature sensor is typically located for visible ice accumulation or frost buildup
Safety First
Always disconnect the appliance from power before performing any checks. If you are unsure about any step, please contact a qualified technician.
