Symptoms
• Refrigerator compartment not cooling to the proper temperature despite freezer working normally
• Freezer compartment cooling normally while fridge section remains warm
• Audible beeping or alarm sounds from the refrigerator
• E20 error code displayed on the digital control panel
• Reduced airflow felt when placing hand near refrigerator vents
• Food spoiling more quickly than normal in the fridge compartment
• Frost accumulation visible only in the freezer section
Possible Causes
• Evaporator fan motor in the fridge section has failed or is stuck
• Evaporator fan blade is blocked by ice buildup or debris
• Wiring harness connecting the fan motor to the control board is loose or disconnected
• Control board is not sending proper voltage to the evaporator fan motor
• Frost accumulation around the evaporator fan from defrost cycle issues
• Defrost timer or defrost thermostat malfunction preventing proper fan operation
• Power supply issues related to 120V/60Hz electrical delivery to the appliance
Safety Checks You Can Do
• Unplug the refrigerator from the wall outlet for 60 seconds, then plug it back in to perform a hard reset of the control board
• Check that the refrigerator is plugged into a dedicated 120V outlet and not sharing the circuit with other high-draw appliances
• Verify your home circuit breaker has not tripped by checking the breaker panel and resetting if needed
• Ensure the refrigerator is level on the kitchen floor by using a spirit level, adjusting the front feet if necessary for proper drainage
• Inspect all door seals and gaskets on both the refrigerator and freezer compartments to ensure they close firmly without gaps
• Check the area around the back and bottom of the refrigerator for dust or debris blocking the condenser coils, and gently vacuum if needed
• Listen near the refrigerator vents to confirm if you can hear the evaporator fan motor running normally
• Verify that the refrigerator and freezer temperature settings are within the recommended USA range of 35-38°F for the fridge and 0°F for the freezer
• Confirm that nothing is blocking the air vents inside the refrigerator compartment that would prevent cold air circulation
• Check if the freezer compartment is cooling normally, which helps determine if the issue is isolated to the fridge section fan
Safety First
Always disconnect the appliance from power before performing any checks. If you are unsure about any step, please contact a qualified technician.
