Symptoms
• Freezer stops cooling or runs continuously without cycling off
• Temperature display shows abnormal or fluctuating readings
• Error code E15 appears on the digital control panel
• Freezer beeps or sounds an alarm intermittently
• Interior temperature rises above safe freezing levels (above 0°F)
• Food begins to thaw or shows signs of partial defrosting
• Compressor cycles on and off erratically
Possible Causes
• Faulty temperature sensor (thermistor) in the freezer section
• Loose or disconnected wire harness between sensor and control board
• Corroded sensor connector pins due to moisture or frost buildup
• Defective main control board unable to read sensor signals
• Ice accumulation blocking the sensor probe in frost buildup areas
• Sensor contact failure from power surges common in 120V/60Hz North American electrical systems
• Damaged sensor wire insulation from age or installation stress
Safety Checks You Can Do
• Unplug the freezer from the 120V outlet for 5 minutes, then plug it back in to reset the control board
• Check your home circuit breaker to ensure the freezer outlet has not tripped and is receiving full power
• Verify the freezer door seal is clean and closes tightly with no gaps or air leaks
• Inspect the condenser coils (typically located at the back or bottom) for dust and debris buildup, and gently vacuum them if accessible
• Ensure the freezer is not packed too tightly, which can block air circulation and confuse temperature sensors
• Check that the ambient room temperature where the freezer is installed is between 50°F and 110°F (standard USA indoor operating range)
• Look for visible ice or frost covering the temperature sensor area inside the freezer, and allow any frost to melt naturally
• Confirm the freezer is not installed in a garage, shed, or outdoor location where temperatures fall below 50°F, which can cause sensor errors
• Listen for unusual compressor sounds or continuous running that might indicate electrical stress on the system
Safety First
Always disconnect the appliance from power before performing any checks. If you are unsure about any step, please contact a qualified technician.
