Symptoms
• Refrigerator compartment temperature rising above the normal 35-38°F range
• Freezer compartment temperature rising above 0°F
• E15 error code displayed on the control panel
• Reduced or no cold air flow from vents into fridge and freezer sections
• Compressor running but cooling not occurring effectively
• Food spoiling faster than normal
• Ice maker producing little to no ice or stopping production
• Control panel beeping or alarm sounding
Possible Causes
• Evaporator fan motor failure or malfunction
• Evaporator fan motor wiring disconnected or damaged
• Evaporator fan blade stuck or blocked by ice buildup
• Faulty evaporator fan motor control board
• Loose or corroded electrical connections at the fan motor
• Thermistor (temperature sensor) sending incorrect signals
• Control module interpreting a sensor error as fan failure
• Ice blocking the evaporator fan in the freezer section
• 120V power supply issue to the fan motor circuit
Safety Checks You Can Do
• Unplug the refrigerator from the 120V outlet and wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in to perform a hard reset of the control module
• Check your home's circuit breaker panel to ensure the dedicated circuit for the refrigerator has not tripped
• Verify the refrigerator is plugged directly into a dedicated 120V outlet and not sharing a circuit with other appliances
• Inspect the freezer compartment for visible ice buildup that may be blocking the evaporator fan, and if found, allow ice to thaw naturally
• Ensure the refrigerator is level on the floor by checking with a spirit level, as improper leveling can affect fan operation
• Verify all door seals and gaskets on both the fridge and freezer compartments are clean, intact, and airtight
• Check the temperature settings are within the recommended USA range of 35-38°F for the refrigerator and 0°F for the freezer
• Vacuum or brush the condenser coils located at the back or bottom of the refrigerator to remove any dust buildup restricting airflow
• Listen for fan motor noise coming from the freezer section when the refrigerator is running
• Confirm the vents inside the refrigerator compartment are not blocked by food items or containers
Safety First
Always disconnect the appliance from power before performing any checks. If you are unsure about any step, please contact a qualified technician.
