• Foreign debris or food particles stuck in the door latch mechanism
• Door frame is bent or warped from impact or improper closing
• Wiring connection to the interlock switch is loose or corroded
• Control board sensor is not reading the door switch signal correctly
• Defective door hinge causing misalignment of the latch
Safety Checks You Can Do
• Unplug the microwave from the 120V outlet for 60 seconds, then plug it back in to perform a hard reset
• Visually inspect the door latch on the microwave frame for visible cracks, breaks, or misalignment
• Open and close the door slowly several times, listening for a distinct clicking sound that indicates the latch is engaging properly
• Clean around the door latch area with a dry cloth to remove any grease, dust, or food debris that may be blocking the latch
• Check that the microwave door closes flush with the frame on all sides with no gaps
• Verify the microwave is plugged into a dedicated 120V outlet as recommended by USA electrical codes, not a shared circuit
• Check your home's circuit breaker panel to ensure the microwave's breaker is in the ON position and has not tripped
• Press the door firmly until you hear a click to ensure it is fully latching before attempting to start a cooking cycle
