Symptoms
• Microwave display shows "E1" error code
• Unit will not start or heat food
• Door appears closed but microwave will not operate
• Error code persists even after closing the door firmly
• Microwave may beep continuously or irregularly when power is applied
• Previous normal operation suddenly stops with error appearing
Possible Causes
• Door latch mechanism is worn, bent, or misaligned
• Door interlock switch has failed or lost electrical continuity
• Debris or grease buildup on door latch contacts preventing proper engagement
• Door hinges are loose causing misalignment of the latch assembly
• Faulty electronic control board misinterpreting door sensor signals
• Damaged or disconnected door switch wiring harness
• Microwave receiving insufficient power from 120V household circuit causing sensor malfunction
• Manufacturing defect in the safety interlock switch assembly
Safety Checks You Can Do
• Unplug the microwave from the 120V outlet and wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in to perform a hard reset
• Visually inspect the door latch on both the door and frame for any visible damage, cracks, or misalignment
• Open and close the microwave door slowly while listening and feeling for a solid clicking sensation indicating proper latch engagement
• Wipe the door latch contacts with a clean, dry cloth to remove any grease, dust, or food debris that may be blocking the switch
• Verify that the microwave is plugged into a dedicated 120V outlet as recommended by USA electrical codes, not a shared circuit
• Check your home's circuit breaker panel to ensure the breaker for the microwave outlet has not tripped
• Inspect the microwave door hinges for looseness and tighten any visible hinge bolts with an appropriate wrench if accessible from outside the unit
• Ensure ventilation grills on the microwave are clear of grease and dust buildup which can interfere with proper sensor operation
• Gently push the door frame inward while closed to see if the latch engages and error clears, indicating a misalignment issue
• Try operating the microwave with the door held firmly closed by hand for a few seconds to test if the error is intermittent
Safety First
Always disconnect the appliance from power before performing any checks. If you are unsure about any step, please contact a qualified technician.
